Only the Olympic-class Medical Ship and Starbases carry as many independent EMH programs. In the event of a medical emergency, these spaces could be configured for emergency medical care, and thus the ship is equipped with no less then 4 separate EMH programs. In their place was put facilities for Covert Ops Teams, Marines, and even Diplomatic and Medical personnel. Weapons were increase with fire power, though as was crew needed for those systems. They altered the ship from Explorer/Battleship specs to include rapid response abilities, increasing the size of the vessel by nearly 50%. But the excalibur project was returned in 2401, eight years after the Borg attack in 2373, and the first ship built was delayed in 2410, being the largest ship class to be built by starfleet standards.įollowing the Borg attack of 2373, Starfleet re-opened the Excalibur files. The Sovereign was approved while the Excalibur was put on hold. Both ships were roughly equal in proposed specs.
